The 36th Edition of Salón Gourmets in Madrid

The largest annual event in the gastronomy sector had one more edition, Estrella Galicia and Cabreiroá as beer and official water, respectively, as well as with Nespresso Professional, Official Coffee of Salon Gourmets, which has brought Madrid its best cocktails, recipes and master classes by its expert baristas and the 7* Michelin chef, Quique Dacosta. Likewise, Madrid was the Invited Community and Brazil acted as the Country of Honor this year. The state brought the best of its food and beverage industry closer to the Spanish and international public through, for example, cachaça, coffee, açaí, sugar, wine, spices and healthy snacks.

 

Chef Quique Dacosta stars in a ´Show Cooking´ with two unique desserts to enhance the coffee experience in the dining room. 

 

Salón Gourmets, the most exclusive Quality Food and Beverage Fair in the world, hosted a show cooking starring chef Quique Dacosta (Quique Dacosta Restaurant, Denia, 3 Stars Michelin) by Nespresso Professional, Official Coffee of this 36th edition.

The chef has prepared two desserts with the Nespresso Professional Reviving Origins Congo Organic variety: a carob rind, roasted radicchio, Jerusalem artichokes and rice pudding cream and coffee beans; and some green coffee mosses, oat flakes, toasted pistachios and dried apricots.

Damián Seijas, Nespresso Coffee Ambassador, has prepared a cocktail based on this coffee, Grand Marnier and Heering, specially designed to pair with these desserts or enjoy the after-meal.

 

Salón Gourmets celebrates the 13th Edition of the Gourmet Cheese Championship, the most important in Spain, with 60 cheeses.

In this contest, considered the most relevant in the sector in our country, they have achieved more than 820 cheeses; only 100 have gone to the final, maintained during the course of Salón Gourmets.

A classic that cannot be missing at the Salón Gourmets is the 15th Spanish Championship of Oyster Openers - Écailleurs / Sorlut / Grupo Gourmets. A box with 30 oysters, a time trial and 8 contestants showed that skill is better than strength to open this little bivalve correctly. Finally, and with a record time of 2 minutes and 50 seconds, Damián Margarit Marián, from Ostras Daniel Sorlut (Madrid), has become the best oyster opener in Spain.

 

The best Cachopo made with Asturian beef.

The restaurant La Puerta de Cimadevilla (Oviedo) has won the first prize in the contest organized by the Regulatory Council of the I.G.P. Asturian Beef, for which 12 participants had been shortlisted.

 

Alejandro Rodríguez (Coque) - Best Sommelier in Spain.

During the last day of the Salón Gourmets, some of the most anticipated contests have taken place. The 28th Tierra de Sabor Spanish Sommelier Championship began first thing in the morning, where the three finalists had to face a quick test, an oral wine tasting, an erroneous menu, identification of spirits, liquors and beverages, and, finally, the decantation and service of a bottle of wine. Finally, Alejandro Rodríguez (Madrid) from Coque Restaurant, has won the title of best sommelier in Spain and will be the Spanish representative in the ASI (Association de la Sommellerie Internationale) World Sommelier Championship.
