Caring for your eyesight

A few steps from the sea, in the old fishermen's quarter of Duanes de la Mar, Ockio is an opticians run by optometrists that combines eye care with a selection of international designer eyewear.

At Ockio they help you choose the right frame and lenses for your prescription and fit them in their own workshop, including drilled, grooved and rimless frames in steel, titanium, acetate or wood. They work with Zeiss and Essilor lenses — they are a Varilux specialist centre — and hold the local exclusive for Leica progressive lenses.

Eye health

As well as eye tests, the practice screens for glaucoma and other retinal conditions with a retinal camera: images of the back of the eye are sent to an associated ophthalmologist, who issues a report. They fit all types of contact lenses, including multifocals for presbyopia, and offer digital, occupational and progressive lenses for reading vision.

Children: myopia and vision therapy

Ockio specialises in paediatric optometry. To slow myopia in children and teenagers it offers myopia-control spectacle lenses, myopia-control contact lenses — it is accredited to fit CooperVision's MiSight — and orthokeratology: lenses worn only at night that reshape the cornea for clear vision during the day, a reversible treatment that can start from age 6 or 7.

It also provides vision therapy: personalised exercises for eye-movement, focusing or lazy-eye problems that can affect reading and schoolwork.
