Learning Spanish in Dénia, at a family-run school

On Calle Barbacana, in the centre of Dénia, TLCdénia teaches Spanish to adults, families and teenagers from all over the world. Courses start every Monday and can last from one week.

TLCdénia is a family-run school. It was founded by Mari Carmen Timor, who began teaching English in 1984 at a small academy in Pedreguer and opened the school in the centre of Dénia in 1994. Around 2000, as demand grew among foreign residents and visitors, it began teaching Spanish, and in 2004 it was accredited by the Instituto Cervantes.

According to the school, more than 600 people a year take part in its language and cultural immersion programmes in Dénia. Its director, Mari Carmen Timor, chaired FEDELE, the Spanish federation of schools of Spanish for foreigners, from 2016 to 2020.

Courses for every age

Intensive courses run all year round, and adults can choose between group courses or private lessons tailored to their goals. Some of its programmes:

Official exams

As well as being accredited by the Instituto Cervantes, TLCdénia is an official examination centre for the DELE diplomas, the SIELE and the CCSE test required for Spanish nationality, and prepares students for all of them. Its courses are recognised as Bildungsurlaub by several German federal states.

The school and life after class

The refurbished school has ten classrooms with interactive whiteboards, air conditioning and heating, a terrace, a coffee area and step-free access. After class it organises social activities: cooking workshops, visits to Dénia's castle and museums, walks on the Montgó, boat trips and, in summer, weekend outings to Valencia, Guadalest or Altea.

If you need somewhere to stay, the school finds accommodation with Spanish host families, in shared flats or in private apartments in town or by the sea, and offers transfers from Alicante and Valencia airports.
